I just thought I would post some information for those of you who are interested in getting the H1N1 vaccine/flu mist. Collin and I are going tomorrow and, unfortunately, we have to go to 2 different health departments. The Nasal Flu Mist is available for people between 2 years old and 49 years old and in PERFECT health. Children under 2 SHOULD NOT get the Nasal Flu Mist as it is a Live Attentuated Intranasal Vaccine (LAIV) which is a small dose of the live virus to help your immune system 'learn' to fight it off. You cannot have allergies, runny nose, tummy ache, etc. It is available at the following places:
*9340 South 700 East
Walk-ins from 8:30 am-4:30 pm (these are also the operating hours)
This department offers the H1N1 NASAL FLU MIST ONLY and it is FREE
*3900 South 1255 East Suite #103
Walk-ins from 10:00am-5:00pm (Operating Hours)
This department offers the H1N1 Vaccine in form of shot AND Nasal Flu Mist for $20
Flu mist IS NOT free at this clinic. This is one of the only places offering the vaccine in shot form.
*3690 South Main Street
Walk-ins from 8:30am-4:30pm
This department offers the H1N1 Nasal Flu Mist ONLY for FREE
*610 South 200 East
Walk-ins 8:30am-4:30pm
This department offers the H1N1 Nasal Flu Mist ONLY for FREE
*4535 South 5600 West
Walk-ins 8:30am-4:30pm
This department offers the H1N1 Nasal Flu Mist ONLY for FREE
In case you don't read or watch the news, they say most places have anywhere from a 2 or 3 hour wait. Lines have been crazy everywhere and the worst part is that there is not a massive amount of this vaccine. Get it while you can and WHILE IT'S FREE! Pregnant women (who are not sick) are considered high-risk. People from age 6 months to 40 years old are high risk. Everyone I know is that age! Get your asses down to a clinic and spend the time to get it done! We are a high-risk state. That is why they are giving the Flu Mist out for FREE.
I am getting the Free Nasal Mist in the EARLY morning (I'm talking 7am to stand in line) then going to another clinic for Collin's shot. There are pros and cons to getting and not getting the shot just like with regular immunizations. I just think it's better to be safe than sorry especially since my little family fits right in the age bracket for the most vulnerable to get The Swine. Scary stuff! Just wanted to share the info with people that care. I called the CDC (Center for Disease Control) tonight just to ask about the age bracket with the Flu Mist. Collin will be 2 in Dec and I just turned 25, so we were right on the outside of the age range. He said I would be allowed the Nasal, but Collin would need the shot even though he is so close to being 2. I took his advice and will not chance it. I'd rather spend the day driving than have him be turned down for the Mist or, worse, not get anything at all.

Thanks Mal. By chance have you heard if pregnant women can only get the shot. I'm pretty sure that is the case, but I was going to call my doctor tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteYes! You can only get the shot. You can get it for free at the clinic on 9340 south 700 east. At least it was free when we went. Otherwise it's just $20, definitely worth it! The flu mist is a live virus that would attack the baby, that's why pregos cannot get it. I would rather have a shot anyway. The mist was just faster I guess..I am getting it next month when the next supply arrives.
ReplyDeleteOh! And you can't get the regular flu vaccination AND the Swine Flu shot. It's too much too handle. But i would recommend the H1N1 and not the regular flu, especially if you are not prone to getting the regular flu on a seasonal basis. Getting a flu shot for 5 consecutive years has been linked to Alzheimer's. Just another reason to wash your hands and keep yourself healthy!
