As most of you know, the house we were renting was sold out from under us. So sad. We had only been there 7 months and I had just finished unpacking every last box when we heard the news. Nice.. I NEVER would have put my family in that situation (renting a house that was on the market), but we had no clue at the time. Anyway, we never wanted to live in another apartment complex because I am not a people person and don't want to see, hear, smell, or get to know my neighbors. Unfortunately, the house we were wanting to rent didn't work out for anyone. (Ugly situation...) We ended up finding a wonderful big condo instead. Yes, it's in a complex, but it's a retirement community so it's all good. I can put up with the seniors. After being here for about 3 weeks, I have seen a couple people come and go so I kind of have an idea about the people in my particular building. There are 8 condos per building. My floor (the bottom) is all older ladies. The top is 1 younger family and all older ladies. No men that I have seen in this building. I have seen the lady that lives above me a couple times outside and in the underground parking garage. She parks in the stall behind ours and drives a Prius.
We moved in and were SO excited because these places are completely soundproof (we thought) until 3 nights ago...
ALL day on Monday I heard stomping, slamming both doors and the sliding glass doors, banging, etc. I ignored it since it was during the day, but I was still a little irritated since it lasted for quite some time. That night McClain worked late, so I was home alone and the stomping and banging continued until 4 am. It was continuous! I thought that maybe someone was moving in or out. That was the only explanation for the chaos. Then, at 7 am, it started all over again. I was so mad! I didn't sleep at all and more important, Collin kept getting woke up all night.
Tuesday: Same thing during the day until 6 pm. Night time comes; stomping begins at 8 pm and continues until 3 am. McClain hears it this time. We lay in bed trying to figure out what the hell could possibly be going on up there, especially since it's an older lady living up there. We think about going up there and bitching, but it's 2 am and we decide against it. Instead, Clain gets up and bangs on the ceiling with his bass guitar case. (The ceilings are way high). He bangs several times and really hard. The noise stops for 5 minutes, then continues. At this point, I want to call the cops, but I still have in the back of my mind that they are just moving out and are inconsiderate bastards. Second night without any sleep... baby didn't get a nap because of the noise... didn't sleep at night either...
Wednesday: At 5 pm, after a long day of listening to stomping and slamming, I pack up my phone, my keys, my butterfly knife (that's right. I'm a bad ass) and my son and hike up the stairs. I knock on the door ever so softly (even though I wanted to Laura Croft, Tombraid-er it down). Now, this next part is very out of character for me. If you know me at all you know that I am not afraid of confrontations. I get what I want when I want it and I am not afraid to tell people where to go and how to get there. I can do it in a nice, convincing way WITHOUT being a total bitch, but that usually doesn't work. I always start out nicely but more likely than not end up being a biotch.
The MAN opens the door (after stomping the whole way down the hall). When I see this person, I lose my breath. He is definitely a Ted Bundy fan. For some reason BESIDES how creepy he is, I lose my breath and can barely talk. All that can come out are tiny squeaks of what is supposed to be me bitching at this LADY for being rude and inconsiderate to her neighbors. He stands there staring at me until I say: "I know you were up until 4 am the other day and 3 am this morning. I called the office and they said if it continues tonight I should call the police. I just thought I would give you the head's up."
Guy: "You did?" (at this point he turns bright red and his eyes bug out of his head)
Me: "Yeah."
Guy: "Oh. Okay"
Then he shut the door! What the hell?! I would be so apologetic if that were me in his shoes! I would never be so damn rude though. As I tried catching my breath and walking down the stairs QUICKLY back to my door, I was terrified for some reason. Where was the lady that lives there? I hadn't seen her car in a couple days...since the noise started. She stays at home during the day and I haven't seen her or her car since then. There is now a large truck parked there. The other thing that got me was that when I asked if someone was moving in or out, he said "No. I have always been here." LIE!! He hasn't always been there! With the way he walks, I would have heard him WAY earlier. He is in his 30's and really scary looking. The place was IMMACULATELY clean and was full of old lady furniture. Strange? I think so..
I didn't hear a peep from him after that. Then at 9, right as Clain walks through the door and I am telling him this, it starts again!! I mean the guy didn't even give an explanation when I knocked. He could have said something like "Oh I am sorry. I was blah-blah-blah-ing". Ya know?? Now all I can imagine is that he hacked that old lady up or something. You could have preformed open-heart surgery in that place it was so damn clean. He was up until 3 am again stomping around. Day three with no sleep. Clain and I BOTH are too scared to go up there or call the cops for fear of retaliation when I am home alone all day. Oh! And to top it all off, in the middle of the night, McClain's mirror in the shower lost suction, fell and broke so it sounded like someone had broken a window or something. I laid in bed TERRIFIED because we don't have a cell right now since Collin threw it in the tub. I was inches from peeing the bed. In fact, I may have. LOL JK
So this morning, I am going to do some investigating. I am going to the office with my hypothesis to see who really lives there and to have something done about the noise. I will keep you posted. Scary, huh?? We may have a Halloween Murder Mystery on our hands....Oh.. and I am listening to the stomping as I am writing this...OMFG

OMG! Mallory that is so scary! Be careful! I did want to see your new place, but uh.... It sounds like you should be coming over to my house instead!! SCARY!
ReplyDeleteMal- I didn't know you had a blog. I love it. I am totally freaked out by your story. I think you should come stay with us until crazy guy goes away or gets taken away. Be careful, you are my favorite sis-in-law and I don't want to lose you. Also, thanks for the Dippidee plug, you are so cute. I love you! By the way, this is Marcee, not Liz. :)
