The Swine shall NOT be Mine!

For all you non-believers in the Swine Flu...
It is real and it's really scary. We are planning on getting our H1N1 vaccinations this week. It's such a scary thing and I seriously don't understand people that don't believe it. WTF? Do they think it is some made up virus that the government came up with to scare people? Do they think it is 'just like the ordinary flu that they never get'? If you are reading this and disagreeing with anything I am saying, PLEASE tell me why on earth you don't think this virus is real.
Just because you don't know someone that has/has had it doesn't mean it isn't real. Don't you think there is a reason it is considered a pandemic? What happened to "I'd rather be safe than sorry!"? I don't mean to sound like a lunatic, but people that bitch about it and call it a hoax are insane and are more likely to get The Swine (as I like to call it) than the people who take precautions, no matter how insignificant the precautions may be.
Personally, I like to be prepared. If you saw my medicine cabinet and food storage area, you would understand what prepared is. My mom works in a hospital and gets the '411' on The Swine. She has told me how it works and how to be prepared for it if need be. We have TEN TONS of Gatorade and Powerade. The Swine works fast at dehydrating your body and you need the electrolytes of those kind of drinks. I also have some Pediasure which works along those same lines. Immodium, Pepto Bismol, Motrin, Tylenol... We also have masks and gloves. Doctors masks, not painters masks. The expensive kinds can be reused and keep germs out while the painters masks most likely will allow the virus/germs in since the filtration is nowhere near the same.
I like to share my info with you. Even if you don't believe in The Swine, maybe you should start believing it, especially if you are a parent. It's just as easy to catch as the regular Influenza strain, just harder to control. If you have flu-like symptoms and can't get a grasp on them, go to the ER. Don't chance it and get others sick. Better to pay a co-pay then a funeral bill, eh?
Oh, and let us not forget HAND SANITIZER! Your kids should carry it to school with them. It only takes ONE KID to be sick to pass it to everyone! With McClain in school, I am a clean freak. He has sanitizer in his car, medicine cabinet and backpack. I even keep a bottle right inside my front door for when people come over.
If you took a look in my purse (well you'd be first confused because it's totally unorganized and full of toys) but then you would see travel-size Lysol, hand sanitizer spray pens (yes, the size of a marker..totally rad), wet wipes and gel hand sanitizer. EVERYTHING is a germ-fest. I have stopped taking Collin to Gymboree Music too. Maybe drastic...maybe not. ?? Only time will tell.. Better to be safe than sorry!

  2. We are going to the Salt Lake County Health Department. I know it's about a 3 hour wait, but it is worth it. I don't want to chance it. The most vulnerable are kids 6 months to 4 years old. Scary! We could go together when you are up for it and the kids can play. : )
